Alcohol Abuse In Teens
Jeff Arnett says, Emerging adults are far less racist, sexist, and homophobic than their parents or grandparents were. They volunteer more. They often have positive relationships with their parents. The much-maligned men of this group are much less likely than the generations before them to abuse alcohol, commit crimes, or have unprotected sex.
Since 1992, there has been a drastic increase in the number of teens who abuse drugs and alcohol. The surprising fact is that a large portion of the drugs are prescription drugs - not cocaine, crack or heroin, the street drugs we are taught to fear.
Alcohol is involved in about 50% of fatal teen car crashes. Parents 75% reported speaking to their teen within the past month about the dangers of drinking and driving. Spy Cameras are among the latest tools in the struggle to reduce teen car crashes due to alcohol abuse.
Teen drug and alcohol abuse is a serious issue; one affecting a lot of families in America. In fact, there has been a 212 percent increase in 12- to 17-year olds abusing prescription drugs since 1992. So where do you think these teens are getting their drugs? Officials says some parents may be enabling their teens’ dangerous habits.
Please consider the above when making your decision. The THC levels in marijuana have increased dramatically in recent years. In an era when we are struggling to control alcohol abuse among our teens, it does not make sense to lower the restrictions on marijuana.
